Audio Tapes Reveal the Depth of the UB Scandal

In 1994, Russ Hamilton was on top of the poker world. He had just defeated Hugh Vincent to capture the World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event title. The poker world rose to their feet and gave an approving nod as Hamilton received his $1 million pay cheque, and his equivalent weight in silver bars, worth an additional $28,000.

During his 1994 victory, Hamilton told reporters that 10-minutes before the tournament started, a stranger handed him a note, “When you get a pair of queens, the tournament will be over.” 

Amazingly, in the final hand of heads-up action Hamilton peeled over his cards to see the two ladies staring back at him. The money went in and Hamilton was the champion. 

So somebody predicted the exact hole cards that Hamilton would turn in the final hand of his WSOP triumph. Now everyone knows that’s impossible. A freak moment of luck. 

We also know that predicting the hole cards of players when you play online is not impossible; in fact, it is very possible, as Hamilton himself showed when he used a ‘God Mode’ to cheat players out of $18 million during his tenure as the owner of Ultimate Bet.

Just in case anyone was in any doubt over the validity of the claims that Hamilton cheated, a former employee of his has just released audiotapes that clearly show Hamilton admitting to the allegations. 

The former Ultimate Bet ambassador, Phil Hellmuth, issued a very quick statement – in reaction to the tapes where it was clearly mentioned to keep Hellmuth in the dark about the ‘God Mode’.

“To hear them discussing this situation and actively deciding to keep me in the dark disgusts and infuriates me. They lied to me about their activities and I made a big mistake in trusting them for way too long.”
